Shep to Host Carnival for the Cure

May 24th, 2011

On Thursday June 2, 2011, Ross Sheppard will be hosting the Carnival for the Cure sponsored by Students’ Union. This annual event encompasses a wide variety of activities which serve two purposes. First and foremost, this event is a vital contribution towards our fundraising efforts. Through this event, we can demonstrate our focus on being a school which is aware and proactive of issues outside of the classroom. Our goal is to raise money for Cancer Research at the Cross Cancer Institute.

This event is also our way as a student body to end off the school year on a positive note prior to final examinations. Teachers and students alike have worked extremely hard, putting in tremendous effort throughout this school year to excel both within the school and the surrounding community. But that is not to say that we have not had our hardships and times of trouble. In this day and age, cancer in all forms has become a source of suffering and emotional adversity. We all have personal experience with cancer, loved ones who have cancer, or even witnessed fellow students or teachers struggling through such difficult times.

Students and teachers alike will have the opportunity to make donations; in return, they will get the opportunity either to toss their “favourite” teacher into the giant dunk tank or maybe greet them with a pie in the face! We also have people gathering donations to shave their head or cut their ponytail in the name of cancer research. All proceeds from this will go to the Cross Cancer Institute. In whatever way you believe that you can contribute the most, we hope that all the T-Bird staff and staff will take part – we may create a greater awareness and concern for this truly worthy cause.

Sincerely,

Trisha ChowYour SU President
