Lesson Plan Title : Halloween Safety

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5 (Elementary School)

Overview and Purpose: In this lesson, students help others stay safe at Halloween by creating a poster of safety rules.

Objective: The student will be able to create a poster of safety rules that students can follow to stay safe on Halloween.

Resources:

Poster board

Markers/crayons

Activities:

Have students work together in small groups to brainstorm a list of safety rules. Once they have several, they can choose the three or four they feel are the most important and create a poster about them. Encourage them to use both words and pictures on the posters. When all the groups are finished, have them share their posters with the class.

Wrap Up:

Have students talk with the principal about displaying the posters around the school to remind students to be safe on Halloween. Revisit the subject after your community’s trick or treat night and talk about what rules the students saw being followed and which ones they saw being broken.
